LEE PRICE'S INTIMATE PORTRAITS EXPOSE THE WORLD OF COMPULSIVE BEHAVIOUR
In a time when our relationship with food is constantly being called into question, US artist Lee Price has taken a look at the experiences of women who eat compulsively – their struggle with their eating habits, and their inability to control their behaviour.
Particularly powerful in a time of shocking obesity statistics, Price’s portraits show women alone in private places including bedrooms and bathrooms, surrounded by donuts, candy, take-out, chips and more. In most of the images, the figure is in the act of obeying her compulsion to eat, with Price highlighting the personal and secretive nature of the world of compulsive behaviour.

At once lifelike, intimate and surreal, Price's figurative realism is a stunning vehicle for these deeply intimate portraits, which highlight the difficulty that we face so often with understanding our impulses, and the private worlds we all inhabit when we step away from our public selves.
